As 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, Apple is planning to celebrate the year with its all-new range of iPhone 8 and 8 plus along with a special edition, a premium iPhone 8 model. The new iPhone might be entirely redesigned with an edge to edge OLED display, an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a front facing camera. Its price is expected to be around Rs. 80,000, but no official announcement has been made yet. It is most likely that the price will not be much higher than the previously released handsets by the company.
An Apple employee has reportedly revealed that Apple staff is working on the hardware of iPhone 8 in their office back in Israel and it will be different from its predecessor iPhone 6s and iPhone 7.
Here are some of the rumored new features of the iPhone 8 that will make it different from the other handsets.
1. Design: It is being speculated that the all-new iPhone 8 will have metal components embedded in an all-glass body. An all-glass body was last used in iPhone 4s and Apple is planning to get back to it with its anniversary edition. Though a glass body will make the phone heavier, but with a thinner and a low-weight display through the use of OLED will allow the designers of the phone to switch to the heavy glass body without compromising with the overall weight of the handset.
2. Display: Making it even more stylish, the new iPhone 8 is expected to have an edge to edge, curved, flexible OLED panel. According to a report of Macrumors, Apple has reportedly signed an agreement with Samsung for the delivery of 40 million OLED panels. OLED panels are known for their perfect contrast ratio, for not requiring the backlight because of its thin structure and for its flexibility. It is also very energy efficient as it does not consume much power. Though these are weaker when it comes to water resistance, but since Apple is already using them in Apple Watch, it is not much of a concern.
3. Camera: Apple will reportedly stick to its dual-lens camera introduced in the 5.5 inches iPhone 7 Plus to the new high-end models which are to be introduced in 2017 as well. The only addition will be an optical image stabilization (OIS) for both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses which until now comes only with the wide-angle lens.
4. Wireless Charging: After getting away from the headphone jack in iPhone 7 and 7 plus, it is predicted that Apple may gift its users with wireless charging. The new iPhone may use the A11 chip that will be built on 10nm manufacturing technology. This will enhance the battery life as well as its performance. And, it is also believed that the company is interested in long-range wireless charging rather than the popular pad-based wireless charging. This means that you can charge your phone without putting it on a charging pad.
