India is one rich agricultural country and farming is a crucial way of earning. About 70 percent Indians are farmers and their entire households are dependent on them. Of late, farmers have not been getting their due income due to intermediaries.
One hardworking 27- year- old from Moradabad has set up an online platform Kisanmade where consumers can buy directly from farmers eliminating middlemen, wholesalers, retailers, taxes, etc. By this venture, both the consumer and farmer stand to be benefitted. Profit for farmer will increase as they will get paid retail price directly by the consumer and the consumer shall get the product at almost wholesale prices. The consumer shall get fresh quality foods, and the farmer shall strive to maintain quality.
This sounds like a great deal. Doesn’t it?
Kisanmade also promises that farmers shall no more be deprived of their due which in the long run shall decrease their debts and suicides.
Meet Rajneesh, the man who settled to take a stride in life and set up something as big as Kisanmade.
How did the idea of Kisanmade come to his mind?
Coming from an agricultural background, the concept of ‘family farmer’ came up when he was in his second semester of MCA.
His family did not have the money to pay for his college fee. They were stuck, not having received any payment from the mill owner for the sugarcane crops they had harvested for the sugarcane mill. Further to let him study they took a loan from the bank to pay off his fee.
This is the case with many sugarcane farmers who languish in the debt cycle due to non-payment of their dues by the mill owner.
After pursuing his MCA, he shifted to Noida in 2012, got another offer and moved to Mumbai in 2014 then come back to Noida again in 2015.
Meanwhile, he started his research on how he could help the farmers. By August 2016, he quit his job and started Kisanmade by investing all his savings. But the problems inflamed with the demonetization on November 8 and delayed the entire procedure. It was only in January this year that he was able to start his operations in a full-fledged manner.
Who are the founders?
The startup was founded by Rajneesh Vishnoi (MCA – 2012, IMS Dehradun) along with Shika Vishnoi (MA: 2014, Hindu College Moradabad). He was joined by Pankaj Vishnoi (pursuing graduation in BSc 2nd year from Lakshya College Of Management And Technology as well as SSC IAS preparation.) Their team has 9 members.
What dragged them start working on it?
“Because of the farmer problems that the country is facing right now. There is a distinct crunch that needs to be eliminated; not all farmers are educated.”

What was the biggest motivation?
Founders say: “Indian farmers can come out of debt if the middlemen are eliminated. Farmers are the soul of India, and you know very well what’s happening with farmers in India.
According to me, Indian Farmers are very wealthy, but they are not aware of their value.They are innocent, with a lack of education and they don’t know how to sell a product. Only brokers are making money. They were my motivation.”
Future plans and missions:
“There are middlemen between farmers and the users, but they forget that there is a need to spread awareness. This initiative is to bring awareness in the country regarding the hard work farmers do.” – Rajneesh says.
Not just this but he plans to go the organic route, educate the farmers and make them acquainted with the facts about the harmful effect of pesticides.
He believes that his concept is not just a startup idea but “a big revolution for the farming community.”
