All types of music serve as therapy, but according to researchers some songs are more relaxing than others. Neuroscientists from the United Kingdom identified one song that seems to stand above the rest; some are even calling it the “most relaxing song in the world.”
But is it all marketing hype or is this calming song the real deal?
The market research firm Mindlab International conducted the study a few years back. They asked participants to complete a series of puzzles while listening to music. They monitored their brain activity to see the effect music had as they completed challenging tasks.
According to inc.com, researchers found the song “Weightless” by Marconi Union, a Manchester-based band, reduced participant stress by as much as 65%. Furthermore, DailyMail.com reported that the song was 11% more effective at reducing heart rate and blood pressure than other relaxing songs.
The song, which was released in 2011, was made in collaboration with the British Academy of Sound Therapy and was intended to calm people down. Some people think “Weightless” is the most calming song ever, but that’s not necessarily true for everybody. We are not referencing the most reliable sources, and there’s potential for research biases.
Further research could prove this song isn’t any more relaxing than your current favorite song. Regardless, trained sound therapists helped create this song with the intention of calming people down. So why not give it a listen and see what you think?!
